Demolition Surveys

An Asbestos Survey Can Save You Big Money
Most building departments require an asbestos survey prior to issuing permits for demolition or significant remodeling involving the removal of sheetrock, flooring, and other potential asbestos abatement materials. The asbestos survey is intended to determine whether construction or demolition is likely to cause asbestos fibers to become airborne. The number of samples taken in an asbestos surveywill be sufficient to identify asbestos-containing materials, if any, and quantify the approximate amount and location of such materials in preparation for asbestos abatement and or demolition of the structure in accordance with the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) section of the Clean Air Act.In addition to the obvious health concerns, if a building is partially or completely demolished without an asbestos survey, the presumption is that there was asbestos present, and all demolition debris is required to be treated as if it contains asbestos and disposed of in an asbestos approved land fill at a significantly increased cost.

When asbestos containing materials are identified in an asbestos survey, they can be removed and disposed of appropriately by an asbestos abatement company, and the balance of the material can be disposed of in a regular land fill.

Air Allergen’s current policy is to provide asbestos survey letters within 5 business days of the scheduled inspection unless point counts are required, in which case the reports are provided within 7 business days.
